Digestion-
Many nutrients work together with their synergistic partner or partners, while other nutrients oppose or antagonise each other.
This complex dance illustrates the need for a balanced intake of nutrients.
Essential nutrients range across; Fats (EFA’s), Vitamins, Carbohydrates, Proteins (Amino Acids), Minerals and Water.
When the bodies elimination and digestive systems are working effectively, nutrients will be absorbed and assimilated much better
Digestion starts in your mouth, the chewing of foodstuffs mixes it with Saliva which contains an enzyme (salivary amylase) prompting starch digestion.
Onward into your stomach where
pepsin and hydrochloric acid get to work breaking down protein as well as killing off any bacteria and parasites.
From the stomach into your duodenum where acidity levels stimulate the liver and pancreas to produce bicarbonate, this raises the pH level of the food (makes it more alkali) which is needed for the next step in digestion.
Bile salts, produced by your liver, are introduced, via the gall bladder, helping to emulsify fats to reduce the size of the droplets.
Alkalinity prompts the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes;
Amylase -
Protease -
Lipase -
Further enzymes used in the final stages of digestion are secreted from the wall of the intestine.
Elimination.
What every person needs, though, is water (H2 O).
Water helps carry nutrients around the body, and assists in the removal of waste products.
A dehydrated body will take action to preserve what water it has to ensure survival.
What happens then?
Sweat and urine production is reduced, and water is extracted from waste products in the colon back into the body.
Resulting In!
Constipation; waste products passing through the colon need water to maintain softness and bulk.
Headaches and lethargy occur as toxins build up.
Bad breath as the body strives to eliminate toxins through alternative routes.
The kidneys, skin, colon, lungs and liver are the pathways of elimination from the body for its waste products.
Lack of water (dehydration) causes these paths to become less efficient, and in extreme cases they may stop functioning.
This places additional strain on the liver as it attempts to detoxify the waste products normally eliminated by the skin, kidneys and colon.
Cellular waste elimination via the lymphatic system may become sluggish.
The lymphatic systems function is to remove waste products from the bodies cells, moving the waste to the main blood circulation via thin walled lymphatic vessels.
Along the lymphatic vessel system at various intervals are lymph nodes which are part of the immune system. They are there to destroy pathogenic material.
Which is then carried away for elimination.
Without water elimination slows and becomes sluggish.
No matter what, your body needs an effective elimination function to support its health.
