Pilates in MS -Pilates (pih-lah-teez) - A movement system created by a German, Joseph
H. Pilates (1880 – 1967) and originally called “Contrology”; it uses spring-driven
machines as well as a series of floor exercises to increase strength, flexibility,
stamina and concentration.
The main focus of Pilates is on core strengthening – the core being the muscles from
the pelvis into the rib cage and diaphragm. Most movements of the body can and should
activate these core muscles.
Using breathwork and flow of movement correctly, Pilates works on overall stability
and balance of the body.
The Benefits can be significant depending on a person’s commitment to Pilates and
their reasons for doing it. Some those use it for rehabilitation and medical reasons
while others choose to do Pilates for exercise, fitness and the body sculpting effects!
