How that opinion affects the individual is an unknown. It is not a prediction!
For people firstly diagnosed with a chronic chronic condition or disorder it may
be difficult for them to imagine what that means, what the outcome may be, how it
will impact on their lives. They can become labelled by the chronic condition / disorder
they are experiencing.
They can become known as:
The Cancer person.
The MS person.
The ME person.
The Diabetic.
The Motor Neurone person.
And so on!
Their label becomes a mask hiding the person behind; they become an invisible component
within our society.
Of course any person confronted with a chronic condition will have to be mindful
of the problems they may experience and how these problems may impact on their relationships,
on the career they follow and the life they lead.
They will need to be surrounded by those who are supportive, who provide the scaffolding
that underpins their efforts to combat the problems thrown at them by the chronic
condition / disorder the have been diagnosed with.
Life is full of potholes and we all encounter them along life’s journey. When a person
knows who they are and what they are capable of doing, their time and energy will
not be wasted being negative and their positive attitude will inspire others.
Decisions should be made as an individual, not as a victim, while still remaining
mindful of any problems to hand which cannot be imagined away.
Inner strength and fortitude within any person is an essential requirement, team
support is also part of the effort, family, friends, health professionals enable
the individual to be able to distinguish between the things that can’t be changed
from the things that can.
