A group of disaffected MS sufferers came together during 2004 to form an independent
pressure group, the original group was spread across the UK and were part of an informed
consent programme to study the potential benefit of a novel treatment known as ‘Aimspro’.
All of the group were MS sufferers - dissatisfied with their experiences of an unhelpful
attitude from the MS Society UK and being uncomfortable with what they considered
to be detrimental comments and actions of others they decided that they wanted to
have an independent voice heard, a voice more demanding of action at the levels of
treatment, cure and national politics.
The group eventually evolved into a charity - Proventus attempts to provide a voice
and make an effort at a grass root level for MS sufferers and others.
All of the people involved in Proventus are volunteers - the charity relies on membership
and donations to do its work, it accepts no monies from the pharmaceutical industry,
related business’s, supplement manufacturers.
Commercial sponsorship of health-related research and information is, of course,
not an issue of concern uniquely to Proventus. Any perception that for-profit commercial
organisations, notably but not exclusively, the pharmaceutical industry, medical
device manufacturers, supplement manufacturers or providers or other for non profit
organisations (charities and pressure groups), were influencing or attempting to
influence the information provided by and the actions undertaken by Proventus, would
damage our reputation for impartiality and the questioning efforts we undertake.

One of the reasons, amongst many, that Proventus attempts to be a well informed listening
organisation and be highly focussed on MS is The hidden face of MS
