Multiple Sclerosis

Proventus

It is important to remember that MS is only one part of a person and not the person.

MS does not represent them, it is not their identity, they are as normal as the next person.

Remission

The state of absence of the disease activity in patients with a chronic illness, with the possibility of return of disease activity.

The period of stability in MS between relapses when symptoms settle down, or disappear is known as remission. Remissions can last any length of time, even years. However it is not known exactly what causes MS go into remission.

Once the inflammation that causes relapses subsides down, the block is relieved, also the central nervous system is able to repair some of the damage done to the myelin sheathing (this is known as remyelination). Even when there is not complete remyelination, people can still recover fully or partially from the symptoms of a relapse.
