Reproductive System

The reproductive system - unlike the others body systems it is not vital for maintaining life and functions only for part of the human life span.

The production of ova (female sex cells - gametes) by the female is cyclic - while the production of sperm by the male is constant and unlike all of the other body systems the reproductive body system differs dramatically between females and males.

During sexual intercourse the male may ejaculate more than 300 million sperm into the vagina, fewer enter the cervix; while fewer still reach the fallopian tube. Several hundred may reach as far as the ova, however only one can fertilize it.
