Other Amino Acids

Carnitine used for

Long-chain fatty acid transport

Entry of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria of the cell

Removal of short-chain organic acids from the mitochondria, which frees the intra-mitochondrial coenzyme.

Assisting in preventing fatty build-up in areas such as the heart, liver, and skeletal muscles.

Citruline used for

Detoxifying the liver from ammonia (a waste product of the body from oxidation)

Promoting  energy

Assisting the immune system

Cystine used for

Vitamin B6 utilization

Assisting in the supply of insulin to the pancreas, needed for the assimilation of sugars and starches.

Increasing the level of glutathione in the lungs, liver, kidneys and bone marrow.

It has been shown as a detoxification agent to protect the body against damage from alcohol and cigarette smoking.

Assists in preventing brain and liver damage.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) used for

An inhibitory neurotransmitter to block the transmission of an impulse from one cell to another in the central nervous system (preventing over-firing of the nerve cells).

Brain metabolism.

Glutathione used for

Detoxifying  harmful compounds in the liver, where it is then excreted through the bile.

Maintaining the integrity of red blood cells

Protecting white blood cells

Assisting in carbohydrate metabolism and breaking down oxidized fats.

Prevent oxidative stress in most cells

Helping  trap free radicals that may damage DNA and RNA.

Not an amino acid, but because of the close structural sameness, it is normally classed with amino acids, also referred to as vitamin BT

Important for the energy supply within the cell and muscle

May improve the antioxidant effect of vitamin C and E

Citruline is formed in the urea cycle by the addition of carbon dioxide and ammonia to ornithine. Then combines with aspartic acid to form arginosuccinic acid, later it is metabolised into the amino acid arginine

Cystine assists in the healing of burns and wounds, and breaking down mucus deposits in illnesses such as bronchitis and cystic fibrosis.

The formation of cysteine from methionine may be prevented during chronic disease, resulting in a deficiency.

GABA combined with inositol and nicotinamide assists with blocking anxiety and stress related impulses from reaching the motor centres of the brain.

Glutathine is an essential powerful anti-oxidant

Delivered into the bloodstream from the liver

Found in the lungs and intestinal tract

Has a prime role in drug metabolism, calcium metabolism, the gamma-glutamyl cycle, blood platelet and membrane functions
